Taser devices are not considered firearms under United States Government regulations and can be carried legally, concealed or visible, in 43 states without the necessity of a permit. Connecticut and Illinois Taser laws allow citizens to carry Tasers, as long as certain restrictions are met. The states of Hawaii, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Michigan, and the District of Columbia have Taser laws that restrict usage, as do some cities and counties. Check your local regulations for Taser laws before purchasing a Taser for personal use.

Background Checks

Tasers are shipped from the manufacturer in a locked state, rendering it inert. Once the Taser has been registered, which includes a full background check of the consumer, the user is issued an activation code that corresponds with the serial number on the device. Once the unit is properly registered, the consumer can use the activation code to arm the Taser device.

In accordance to Taser laws, a background check of the consumer will be conducted in order to verify the buyer’s identification and social security number ensure the buyer is of legal age to own a Taser, and assure the consumer is not on any terrorist watch list nor has any felony convictions.

Taser laws dictate a registration system designed to keep their personal defense devices out of the hands of those who might misuse the product. Their system has been successful in deterring criminal uses of the device for over ten years.

AFID Accountability

Tracking the use of Taser devices is equally as important as properly purchasing and registering them. In order to ensure the devices are not misused, each Taser deployment disburses a confetti-like substance known as AFIDs.

By Taser laws, these small objects contain a serial number that corresponds with the individual Taser’s serial number, and can instantly identify which Taser was deployed. Enough of these small identification tags disburse in conjunction with the deployment of the Taser barbs, and enough are emitted so as to make cleaning all of them up impractical. When law enforcement officers recover the AFIDs from a scene where a Taser has been deployed, all they need to do is contact the manufacturer to identify the owner of the Taser that was used. This is important in ensuring that Taser laws are followed accurately.

Tasers can only be purchased directly from the manufacturer, and will only be shipped to addresses that match the information received during the background check. They cannot be received at post office boxes, or at addresses that do not match the billing address for the credit card that was used to purchase the Taser.

Upon receipt, customers will also receive a certificate that is redeemable for a one-hour in home training session on the proper use and application of the Taser and a full understanding of Taser laws. In order to fully understand the capabilities of this powerful self defense tool, it is highly recommended that anyone purchasing a Taser take advantage of this opportunity.

Tasers are small and lightweight, making them easy to carry either on your body or in a purse or bag. They deliver a forceful blow to any would-be attacker and have provided citizens with successful personal protection that has been proven to work for many years. They are a practical option for anyone who is seeking a personal defense weapon but does not wish to own a firearm.
