Both of these personal defense devices are designed to deliver a high voltage, low wattage shock to a potential assailant. They affect the attacker in the same manner, interrupting the brain’s signals to the musculature of the body, rendering the attacker helpless. Once the electric shock has been administered, the recipient’s body will become rigid. The knees may buckle, or the assailant may fall to the ground. In rare instances, the recipient may lose bowel control.
In addition to the physical effects of Taser stun guns, someone who has been hit with such a device will experience a sense of confusion or disorientation. The effects can last for up to ten minutes once the flow of electricity has stopped, but the recipient does not suffer from any long-lasting effects. In general, stun guns and Tasers stun guns are very effective yet very safe methods of providing personal protection.
The Stun Gun :
Stun guns are generally more compact than Tasers stun guns, and come in a variety of shapes that cleverly disguise them as everyday items such as pens and cellular phones. This makes them more concealable than Tasers stun guns, and the fact that they do not normally resemble a weapon gives the user the added benefit of surprise. Stun guns come in various options for the amount of electrical volts delivered, up to one million volts. This makes them extremely powerful. The main disadvantage is that in order to use a stun gun, the user must be in close proximity to the attacker. Once the trigger or activating device on a stun gun is no longer being depressed, the flow of electricity to the attacker ceases. In order to purchase a stun gun, one does not ordinarily need to pass a background check. They can be easily obtained at many police equipment or sporting goods stores, or at local gun dealers.
Taser Stun Guns ;
A Taser stun gun does not provide as many electrical volts being delivered to an attacker, yet the Taser is still a highly effective device. The main benefit of the Taser stun gun is the ability to deploy it against a potential attacker from a distance of up to 15 feet away. This allows the user additional time to defend themselves or to escape. Taser stun guns also come with a feature that allows the user to initiate successive deployments through rapid trigger pulls, which ensures the continuity of electricity flowing to the attacker even after the user has dropped the Taser and run to safety. In addition to the deployment of barbs, Taser stun guns offer a drive stun feature that very closely resembles the stun gun. Purchasing a Taser stun gun requires the buyer successfully complete a background check, and they can only be purchased through the manufacturer.
Both of these personal defense weapons are highly effective, non-lethal protection options. They each offer different benefits, allowing the user to choose between higher voltage capabilities or greater effective distance. Laws pertaining to the use of Taser stun guns and stun guns are very similar, and states that prohibit the use or ownership of one also prohibit the other as well.
