Most business owners who design print catalogs have one thing in common: most of them have no idea how to go about it so that it makes money for them. It may sound offending but it’s actually true. Some designers even are surprised to know that they can make a profit from their catalog printing.
If there’s one thing print catalogs are supposed to do, it’s to make a profit. Yes, it should be something that you as a business owner can use to start growing your business. But sadly, not too many businesses know what it takes to make money from catalog printing.
One marketing expert gave these suggestions to business owners so they too can maximize their opportunities with catalog printing:
1- Put large items on the front cover of the catalog. Even if your graphic designer is against this one and is threatening to quit if you ever deign to do this, just go ahead. If you want to put something large in your cover then do it. It can work miracles to your catalog’s effectiveness.
2- Include a “Letter from the President/Manufacturer/Owner” on the inside of the front cover. Even when everybody is telling you otherwise, everybody will read your letter if you wrote it right. When you design and create your letter in such a way that makes for interesting reading material, then that part of your catalog can very well be an effective selling tool that makes for a more powerful catalog for your business.
3- If there is a request, send your catalog right away. Don’t wait to have 10 or more catalog requests before you send them out. If your average order is very high then make it a point to mail a catalog immediately for each request, even if it meant mailing it first class or priority. As they say, strike while the iron is hot. You might end up losing the profits by waiting for the next scheduled catalog mailing.
4- Give your target audience the special treatment. Double your response to your catalog by giving them a personalized letter, a special offer or even a discount coupon. It can very well boost the life of your catalog, and even your target clients’ as well.
You have to remember one thing when catalog printing – sure, a catalog is designed to look good to attract attention. But it is also designed first and foremost, to make money for your business. Your catalog’s job is to get orders. What you have inside makes it worthwhile for your target audience to make that purchase.
